Liberty Global is strengthening its support for the humanitarian effort in Ukraine by donating $200,000 to relief organizations. The donation is in addition to the free calls, texts and data being offered by some of the company’s European operating companies.

The funds, which were provided by Liberty Global’s executive leadership team and board of directors, will go to relief organizations supported by our operating companies and charity partner:

UPC Polska Employees for Ukraine

Sunrise UPC for Ukraine

Telenet – SOS Children’s Villages

Street Child stands with Ukraine

As well as offering customers free calls and texts to and from Ukraine, UPC Poland, which has been uniquely affected by the crisis, is also taking significant steps to help Ukrainians seeking refuge, from distributing essential supplies to using fleet vehicles to transport victims at the border.

CEO Mike Fries announced the donation in an internal message to employees:

“During this terrible time of war in Ukraine, our thoughts and prayers are with the Ukrainian people. This is a hugely distressing time for many of our colleagues and their families from Ukraine and elsewhere in Europe. Our hearts go out to all those impacted.

“So far, reporting indicates that thousands of lives have been lost, and nearly three million Ukrainians have been forced to flee their homes.

“The serious consequences of this crisis are likely to increase in the coming weeks. As the news continues to unfold, we recognize that connectivity plays a crucial role, and we want to help those who need it.

“We are closely monitoring events and will continue to consider how we can help. Our focus is on providing relief to those affected and our united hope is that hostilities and human suffering will end as rapidly as possible.”
