Liberty Global has released its 2021 Corporate Responsibility Report, which provides an overview of our economic, social and environmental impacts and performance.

The report looks at inspiring examples of all the work our people are doing to empower positive change across our central business and operating companies. This report outlines how their collective efforts are making a positive and lasting difference across Europe.

Case studies from our Corporate Responsibility Report include our commitment to become Net Zero across Scopes 1 and 2 by 2030.

We also became a founding member of the European Green Digital Coalition in 2021.

Liberty Global CEO Mike Fries said: “None of this work happens without our people, and I am so proud of their commitment to our customers, one another, and our Purpose of building Tomorrow’s Connections Today. In this report, you will see stories that bring to life the topics most important to our people, our stakeholders, and our industry – where we believe we can make a difference.”

Our actions in 2021 resulted in avoiding more than 6,636 metric tonnes of carbon emissions. We also refurbished more than 2million set-top boxes and modems, and our responsible product strategy means that our Mini TV box is made from 85% recycled plastics, while our Connect box is made from 100% recycled plastics.

Our operating companies’ sustainability strategies are also highlighted. Most recently, Virgin Media Ireland launched its Connecting 4 Good plan, while Virgin Media O2 announced its Better Connections strategy, including a Net Zero commitment across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 by 2040.

We understand that our role is more than just connectivity. It is also about helping people develop the skills they need to flourish in the digital world. In 2021, we continued to sponsor young digital innovators in our partnerships with Coolest Projects and Young Social Innovators – where female participation grew to 44% and 69%, respectively.

We aim to continuously create a culture of belonging. In 2021, with support from our dedicated DE&I Council and team, we established six ERGs to engage our people, raise awareness and support the development of our DE&I and ESG strategies.
