Chirmorie Wind Farm is an onshore wind farm located in South Ayrshire, Scotland, on the border of South Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway, approximately 5–6 km south-west of Barrhill. The project will comprise 20 wind turbines and is expected to generate around 275 GWh of renewable electricity each year — enough to power approximately 78,000 homes.

egg Power, Liberty Global’s clean energy infrastructure investment business, has acquired the project rights to Chirmorie Wind Farm from Coriolis Energy and ESB.

This page will be updated with progress news, traffic information and contact details as work continues through construction and into operation.

About The Project

Chirmorie Wind Farm is an onshore wind farm that will support the UK’s transition to a lower-carbon energy system while helping to improve long-term energy security. Once operational, the wind farm will provide a reliable source of low-carbon electricity to the grid and make a meaningful contribution to net zero goals.

Planning permission was granted by the Scottish Government in March 2018 and has since been updated through subsequent applications as the project has moved towards construction.

Site Infrastructure and Land Use

The site includes 20 wind turbines, access tracks, a substation and control building, and associated civil and electrical infrastructure. Agricultural use of the land will continue throughout the life of the project, with sheep grazing remaining part of the site’s long-term use.

With planning permission secured for a 40-year operational life, the wind farm will be carefully managed throughout its lifetime before being responsibly decommissioned and the land restored in accordance with approved requirements.
