Chirmorie Wind Farm has been designed not only to generate renewable electricity, but also to support long-term environmental improvements across the site. The project includes a Habitat Management Plan and biodiversity measures such as the restoration of approximately 246 hectares of peatland and the creation of new native riparian woodland to specifically improve biodiversity along existing water ways.

A number of environmental management measures have already been approved as part of the planning process, including the Habitat Management Plan, Water Protection Plan, Protected Species Plan, Breeding Bird Protection Plan, Recreation Access Plan and Deer Management Statement. These measures will continue to guide the project during construction and operation.

Agricultural use of the land will continue alongside the wind farm, helping to ensure a balanced, long-term use of the site.

Habitat Management Group

Oversight of the Habitat Management Plan will be through an independent Habitat Management Group. The commitment register states that this group will include a representative of the Owner, a representative of South Ayrshire Council, the landowner and farm manager, and a suitably qualified ecologist.

Open invitations to participate will also be extended to RSPB and NatureScot, and relevant monitoring reports and meeting minutes will be shared with them.
