As a company that maintains a keen focus on nurturing Tomorrow’s Workforce, we hold Street Child’s work close to our hearts. Our longstanding partnership enables us to support children around the world with education and contribute to a better tomorrow.

History

Our story began in 2008 when Shane O’Neill, Liberty Global’s former Chief Strategy Officer, founded Lessons for Life, an educational charity dedicated to improving the life prospects of vulnerable children in Africa. Liberty Global supported the organization in raising income of £23 million, helping nearly 90,000 children, families and communities in Africa.

In 2019, Lessons for Life merged with Street Child. It began its journey in 2008, with its first partnership in Sierra Leone.

The Big Ride

Every year, we partner with Street Child to host our flagship fundraising event, The Big Ride. Across two days, hundreds of people get involved by walking, running or cycling to raise money.

In 2024, the event was held in Belgium and brought together a record 800+ participants, with over €1 million raised. Beyond fundraising, we also use our tech expertise to support Street Child and explore how technology can connect even more children to a vital education.

MEASURING OUR IMPACT

Our support of Street Child’s work comes in a variety of ways. Since 2019, our support has reached 160,000 children around the world.

This includes forgotten crises, like in northeast Nigeria and Afghanistan where conflict and poverty are threatening children’s
futures, as well as in conflict areas such as Syria and Ukraine.

Our Liberty Global leadership team hold several positions on the Street Child board.
