At Davos 2026, our Chairman and CEO Mike Fries joined CNBC’s Squawk Box to share his perspective on the rapidly-evolving geopolitical and technological landscape – and what it means for Europe’s competitiveness.

Mike reflected on the unique moment we’re in: a world where geopolitical tensions are rising, industrial policy is shifting, and technology – especially AI – is advancing at unprecedented speed. As an American leading a European company, he underscored the importance of stability, and his view that what was emerging from recent events was a “more muscular Europe” more focussed on industrial policy, defence spending and economic growth. He was optimistic about the enduring strength of the transatlantic relationship.

Mike spoke about how now was a ‘transformational moment’ for AI – with change happening at light speed and a massive gap between what AI is capable of and how industries are currently deploying it. For Liberty Global, AI represents a major opportunity to transform operations far beyond incremental gains – to fundamentally reshaping the business.

He also discussed Liberty Global’s strategy of unlocking value across its telecom assets and investing in its media, infrastructure and sports portfolio, including Formula E – one of just eight global sports.
