Virgin Media Ireland

Virgin Media Ireland is the largest cable television operator in Ireland. Virgin Media Ireland provides video, broadband internet, and digital telephony (VoIP) services to 1.0 million service subscribers (RGUs) represented by 458,000 customers as of September 30, 2016. It also offers mobile and data services as a MVNO.

Virgin Media Ireland’s customers are located in five regional clusters, including the capital city of Dublin and other major cities. Its cable network is 90% upgraded to two-way capacity, with 91% of its cable homes served by a network with a bandwidth of at least 750 Mhz.

In addition, Virgin Media Ireland offers a range of video, voice, broadband internet, and data services to business customers. These customers include small and medium size businesses, large corporations, public organizations, and wholesale partners in major metropolitan areas of Ireland.

Video

Virgin Media Ireland provides basic and enhanced video services. For its enhanced video subscribers, Virgin Media Ireland offers different packages starting with a package that includes 63 video channels and several radio channels (including the channels in its basic service). In addition, Virgin Media Ireland offers its customers a variety of premium channels, HD programming, an electronic program guide, ReplayTV, as well as DVR services. In March 2015, it launched MyPrime, the SVoD video-streaming service. A basic video subscriber receives 26 video channels and several radio channels, depending on location.

Virgin Media Ireland offers Horizon TV, our next generation video platform, which had 153,000 subscribers at September 30, 2016. Virgin Media Ireland offers Horizon Go, offering customers access to linear channels, VoD programming and remote DVR management across multiple devices while in the home.

Internet

Virgin Media Ireland offers multiple tiers of broadband internet services. Download speeds of up to 240 Mbps are available utilizing Euro DOCSIS 3.0 technology. Broadband internet is available to 90% of Virgin Media Ireland’s homes passed. In 2014, Virgin Media Ireland launched WiFiSpots across its footprint which provides free WiFi access to its customers who are traveling within the footprint. Virgin Media Ireland has 347,000 WiFiSpots as of September 30, 2016.

Virgin Media Ireland provides feature-rich digital telephony via VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). Through its VoIP technology, Virgin Media Ireland offers telephony services to 89% of its homes passed. 

As of October, 2015, Virgin Media Ireland also offers mobile voice & data services as a MVNO. It offers its mobile service on a post-paid basis.
