Liberty Global's operations in Germany are run by Unitymedia. Unitymedia is the second largest cable operator in Germany. Unitymedia offers triple-play services consisting of video, broadband internet, and fixed-line telephony (VoIP) to 12.7 million service subscribers (RGUs) represented by 7.2 million customers as of September 30, 2016. It also offers mobile voice and data services.

Unitymedia’s operations are located in the German federal states of Baden-Württemberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Hesse which include the major cities of Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Essen, Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, Mannheim, Stuttgart, and Weisbaden. Unitymedia’s territory represents some of the most prosperous and densely populated regions in Germany and Europe. The cable footprint passes 12.9 million homes as of September 30, 2016. Its networks are 98% upgraded to two-way capability.

In addition, the commercial division of Unitymedia offers a range of voice, broadband internet, and data services to business customers and wholesale partners throughout its cable footprint.

Unitymedia provides basic and enhanced video services. For its enhanced video subscribers, Unitymedia offers different packages starting with a package that includes 88 video channels and several radio channels. Subscribers may also receive its video services through a CI+ module. In addition, Unitymedia offers its customers a variety of premium channels, HD programming, interactive services such as VoD, an electronic program guide, as well as DVR services. A basic video subscriber receives 29 video channels and several radio channels. In September 2013, Unitymedia launched Horizon TV, our next generation video platform, which had 558,000 subscribers at September 30, 2016. In addition, Unitymedia offers Horizon Go.

Unitymedia offers multiple tiers of broadband internet services. Download speeds of up to 200 Mbps are available with its next-generation broadband internet service utilizing EuroDOCSIS 3.0 technology. Broadband internet services are available to almost all of Unitymedia’s homes passed. In August 2016, Unitymedia launched WiFiSpots across its footprint which provides free WiFi access to its customers who are traveling within the footprint. Unitymedia has 788,000 WiFiSpots as of September 30, 2016.
